Car Crashes Are:

  • The #1 killer of teenagers in America (31.3% of National Deaths)
  • The leading cause of death & injury for every age from 2 - 34

2006, Crash Death by Numbers:

  •  43,000 killed
  • 118 died daily
  • 1 death every 12 minutes

2006 Crash Summaries:

  • 6 million police-reported traffic crashes
  • One crash every 5 seconds
  • 2.6 million people injured
  • $230.6 billion - economic costs

2006 Seat Belts summaries:

  • 15,400 - lives saved by the use of a seat belt
  • Over 55% of passenger vehicle occupants killed were UN-restrained
  • 58% of 16-20 yr. olds killed were not buckled
  • Seat belts, when used reduce the risk of fatal injury to a front seat passenger by 45%

2006 Alcohol-Impaired Summaries:

  • 13,470 killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes
  • 1 alcohol related death every 39 minutes
